Hertz Yuriy (1931 - 2012)
Was born on February 27, 1931 in the village of Lokhovo, Mukachevo, Transcarpathia.
In 1955 he graduated Uzhhorod College of Applied Arts, Department of Painting.
A member of the National Union of Ukrainian Artists since 1969.
Honoured painter of Ukraine (1990).
Winner of the T.Shevchenko National prize (1994).
The disciple of A. Erdeli, Y. Bokshai and F. Manailo. He is a bright follower of Manailo’s traditions of spirituality and folk origins in art. A master of multi-figure genre compositions, landscape and urban views. A passionate artist of folk beliefs, rites, customs and daily life of the Carpathian land. He is an artist of inimitable and distinctive style whose multicoloured paintings remind of the magnificent vitrages and exquisite mosaics.
